QH - custom shim pad to fit arab saddle

9/21/2013

Picture
Custom shim pad to fit an XW Arab saddle to a Quarter Horse. This is a temporary pad and saddle for this horse which allows the horse to be ridden comfortably while the Owner shops for a new saddle.
Picture
This QH has a relatively flat back. This County dressage saddle was originally custom ordered for an Arab and has a lot of arc to the shape of the saddle tree. Without a custom pad, the saddle would sit like a rocking chair on top of the horse.

Bottom of saddle tree shown. Existing billet hangers are lowest ones attached to points of tree. New hangers installed are middle ones placing front billet behind the thigh block.

After: Girth now aligns properly for horse conformation. Shoulder is now free. Note the hole at the bottom of the thigh block where the old point billet was previously aligned.
Picture
In this monoflap saddle, the billets are passed through the center of the single flap. This photo shows the two billet hangers coming off the tree and entering the top of the flap. The rear hanger shown is standard from the factory, and the front hanger shown was installed at the new location behind the thigh block by Advanced Equine Saddle Fit.

Circle Y Gaited tree western saddle. The tree still sits over the top of the horse's scapula (shoulder), but with the custom shim pad, the scapula can glide under the tree without interference.
